      "I . . . last left my domicile in the United States at Chicago, Illinois on or about June 1914, that I have since resided temporarily at Lodz, Russian Poland, and that I arrived in Lodz where I am now temporarily residing, on the 18th dya of July 1914, my reasons for such residence being as follows:
      "I came to Russian Poland to collect monies due me for goods sold by me to businessmen in Lodz. Furthermore, I also desired to collect money due me from the estate of my mother, Perla Perlberg, deceased. . . .
      "I intend to return to the United States permanently to reside within 2 years or when the European War is over. . . .
      "Subscribed and sworn to before me at Warsaw, Russia this 3d day of July 1916, Hernando Soto, American Consul"
